Against all odds, a solo Bitcoin miner turned a modest home into a Bitcoin fortune worth $266,000. Here’s how they did it.
The solo miner of Bitcoin block 888,737 - who won a BTC reward of $266,000 last week - shared their story with FutureBit, the creator of Bitcoin mining hardware, which helped their Apollo devices achieve the big result.
The unknown miner, who received more than 3.15 BTC or about $266,000 last week between the fixed reward and transaction fees,
"I usually set my Apollo miners to efficiency mode," this is what the email stated. "During the cold months, I run the SK19Pro at 60TH during the day and 100TH at night," the message added, noting that aside from some scheduled tasks that stop hashing during peak electricity times, "everything else is the default settings."
A solo Bitcoin miner won the jackpot and received a reward of $266,000
A solo Bitcoin miner won the jackpot on Friday morning after mining a block without any supporting miners, receiving a reward of $266,000. But how realistic is this achievement? On Friday, an unknown miner processed Bitcoin block number 888,737. The block contained 2,327 transactions, and they received a reward of 3.125 Bitcoin, plus 0.032 Bitcoin in fees. At the current Bitcoin price of $84,257, that's more than $266,000.
This setup was sufficient to achieve the ultimate reward for a solo miner. It is an extremely unlikely win, given the dominance of large publicly traded companies and mining pools in this industry.
I browsed the Apollo website on my phone, comfortably lying in bed, as the miner wrote. "I checked the SOLO mining user dashboard. What appeared next completely astonished me."
And after moments, the miners started the BlueWallet app on their iPhone, confirming their suspicions that they had successfully "found a block."
