What is Nillion?

Core technology and operational model

Blind Computation is at the heart of Nillion. This technology allows data to be processed without decryption, ensuring that data remains secure even during computation. This is highly significant for fields like AI and crypto, where sensitive data is frequently used.

Nillion has a two-layer architecture:

• Coordination Layer (NilChain): Built with Cosmos SDK, it serves as the foundation for developing secure applications (blind app).

• Orchestration Layer (Petnet): Uses MPC, ZKP, FHE to process data even when encrypted – ensuring maximum security and privacy.

If Nillion attracts more than 200 million users into the cryptocurrency ecosystem through blind computation, this will expand the design space for hundreds of verticals and thousands of applications. The main modules of Nillion

Nillion implements blind computation through three main modules on the mainnet:

1. nilDB

nilDB allows users to control data by distributing trust across a network of nodes. Data is encrypted and distributed but can still be queried quickly. This module has been put into production and is being used to secure millions of sensitive data.

2. nilAI

nilAI is Nillion's AI optimization toolkit, including products such as Multipart Computation, Trusted Execution Environments, and reliable Retrieval-Augmented Generation.

3. nilVM

nilVM is Nillion's generalized blind computation layer, allowing developers to build their applications using a domain-specific language (DSL) based on Python.
