U.S. President Donald Trump is hosting a historic summit on digital currencies at the White House today, Friday, where he will meet with prominent industry leaders to discuss the future of digital assets and the role of the United States in this growing sector.

This meeting comes at a sensitive time, as his administration seeks to provide a new regulatory environment that promotes investment and innovation in cryptocurrencies.

According to Axios, during the summit, top investors and executives in the digital currency space will gather, including Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, co-founders of the "Gemini" platform, Brian Armstrong, CEO of "Coinbase," and Michael Saylor, head of "MicroStrategy" for Bitcoin investment.

The summit also includes the U.S. President's advisor on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies, David Sachs, along with officials from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve.

A senior official at the White House told Axios, "This summit reflects President Trump's commitment to making the United States a leader in the digital currency sector, which requires close cooperation between the government and the private sector to establish a regulatory framework that supports innovation without stifling it with stringent laws."

In an unprecedented move, Trump signed an executive order on Thursday to establish a "Strategic Reserve of Bitcoin," which includes approximately 200,000 Bitcoin (equivalent to $17.5 billion USD).
