One developer was able to use a Raspberry Pi (a very small computer, the size of a credit card) to turn an old landline phone - with a rotary dial - into a device powered by artificial intelligence, specifically ChatGPT!
But how does it work? 🤔
When you pick up the handset, you will hear the usual dial tone, then ChatGPT will start recognizing your voice and respond to you as if you were talking to a human. There is something amazing about this; the model will remember the events of the call so you can continue it at any later time if you wish!
It is worth mentioning that the project relies on a Raspberry Pi 4 system, but a Raspberry Pi 5 can be used for better performance. It also relies on OpenAI's Whisper interface to convert speech to text.
