๐ China unveils a new engine capable of flying at speeds exceeding โก 19,600 km/h!
China ๐จ๐ณ announced that its new engine has proven its ability to reach astonishing hypersonic speeds equivalent to 16 times the speed of sound ๐ during tests. The engine, known as the Oblique Detonation Engine (ODE) ๐ ๏ธ, runs on aviation kerosene fuel โ๏ธ and achieved these remarkable performances during tests in the JF-12 shock tunnel ๐๏ธ in Beijing.
Results showed that the combustion rate ๐ฅ in this engine is 1000 times faster compared to traditional scramjet engines, with an operational range extending between 7,350 and 19,600 km/h ๐โspeeds at which most conventional air engines falter.
During tests, the engine maintained a speed of 11,000 km/h โฉ over a distance of 150 meters (492 feet) ๐, which was limited by the tunnel's operating time of 50 milliseconds โณ. Nevertheless, researchers ๐ง๐ฌ were able to gather important data on ignition mechanisms and thrust performance at hypersonic speeds.
At its peak performance, the engine demonstrated tremendous thrust capability ๐ฅ, representing a significant achievement ๐ that brings China closer to its goal of developing an aircraft capable of flying at speeds exceeding 5.4 kilometers per second by 2030 ๐, in addition to enhancing its military capabilities ๐ก๏ธ in the field of hypersonic missiles and drones.
