What is RLC cryptocurrency and what is its project?

RLC is the token of iExec, a leading provider of blockchain-based decentralized computing.

Blockchain is used to organize a market network where people can invest their computing power, applications, and even data sets.

It does this by providing on-demand access to cloud computing resources. IExec can support applications in areas such as big data, healthcare, artificial intelligence, rendering, and financial technology. IExec was founded on October 16, 2016, with the goal of reinventing cloud computing by creating a new cloud computing paradigm.

As such, iExec is based on XtremWeb-HEP, an open source desktop networking software that implements features such as multi-application, fault tolerance, multi-user, virtual image deployment, private infrastructure, data management, security, and much more.

RLC digital currency project

The iExec network consists of computing resource providers known as iExec workers. If users want to be these workers, they can connect their devices and be rewarded with RLC cryptocurrency for contributing their resources to the network.

Application providers can monetize their algorithms, and data providers with valuable datasets can make them available for use through iExec. There's also a consensus protocol known as PoCo, or Proof of Contribution, which provides consensus for off-chain computing.

Thanks to this proof of contribution, external resource providers enjoy the use of their own blockchain-based resources.

The RLC digital currency also provides distributed applications running on the blockchain, known as decentralized applications, that are scalable, secure, and easy to access to servers, datasets, and computing resources. And since all of this runs on Ethereum, it allows for a virtual cloud infrastructure that can provide high-performance computing services on demand.

As such, the RLC digital currency makes the emerging class of blockchain-based distributed applications possible, enabling cost-effective, high-performance computing through a decentralized cloud infrastructure. By facilitating access to machines, the distributed cloud will allow for a dramatic increase in the environmental footprint of data centers.

Founders of RLC cryptocurrency

When it comes to iExec RLC's founders, Gilles Fedak is the CEO and co-founder. Before joining iExec, he worked at INRIA as a postdoctoral research scientist at the University of California, San Diego, and at ATER at the University of Paris-Sud. He holds a Ph.D. in philosophy and computer science.

Haiyu He is the co-founder and president of APAC at iExec. Previously, he was a professor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an innovation transfer research engineer at ENS Lyon, a co-founder of iRentCPU, an expert research engineer at INRA, and an adjunct professor at Hohai University, holding a PhD in computer science.

This means that iExec is built on the work of team members who conducted INRIA and CNRS research in the field of desktop network computing.
