Early Life and Education
Born on October 5, 1952, in Lahore, Pakistan, Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi came from a well-off Pashtun family of the Niazi tribe. He received his early education at Aitchison College, Lahore, before moving to Royal Grammar School, Worcester, England. Later, he graduated from Keble College, Oxford, in 1975 with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE).
Cricket Career: A National Hero (1971–1992)
Imran Khan made his cricket debut in 1971, quickly becoming one of the greatest all-rounders in the sport. As a fast bowler and aggressive batsman, he led Pakistan to its first-ever Cricket World Cup victory in 1992. This win turned him into a national icon, and he retired from cricket soon after, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and leadership.
Philanthropy: Giving Back to Pakistan
After retiring, Imran Khan dedicated himself to philanthropy. Inspired by his mother’s battle with cancer, he established the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre in 1994, the first facility in Pakistan offering free cancer treatment to underprivileged patients. He also founded Namal University to provide quality education to rural students.
Political Career: A Struggle for Change (1996–2023)
In 1996, he launched Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), vowing to fight corruption and build a welfare state. The party faced struggles initially, winning only one seat in 2002. However, by 2013, PTI had risen to become Pakistan’s second-largest political force, setting the stage for his eventual leadership.
Prime Ministership: Leading Pakistan (2018–2022)
Imran Khan took office as Pakistan’s 22nd Prime Minister on August 18, 2018. His tenure focused on:
