Sam Altman, founder of Open AI, acknowledges the destructive potential of Artificial Intelligence: ‘No bunker will save you if it goes out of control’
More and more magnates are taking a stance in the current technological debate: the rapid advancement of AI. From Microsoft founder Bill Gates to Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, many have shared their opinions on the future of Artificial Intelligence, which is increasingly taking over human functions.
One of the prominent figures in the field of AI is Open AI founder Sam Altman. He is responsible for the company that created the now-famous Chat GPT, but even he admits that the situation could be catastrophic.
Year after year, the success of AI has only accelerated technological progress, but it has also awakened a new fear that Altman shares: the fear of an apocalypse caused by AI; in fact, many wealthy individuals have already started buying bunkers.
The founder of Open AI has positioned himself on the destructive potential of AI, stating that we have never had to deal with a species more intelligent than us, as is the case with this technology.
In an interview with Business Insider, Sam stated that he has “some structures in place in case AI generates an apocalypse, but he wouldn't call them ‘bunkers’; it would be more of a safe haven. However, he was blunt about the destructive potential of AGI: ‘None of that will save you if AGI goes out of control,’ he concluded.
The founder of Open AI is known for being a ‘prepper,’ which in American culture is categorized as someone who devises a plan for any out-of-control situation during an apocalypse. But he admits that he does not do this thinking about AGI in a devastating way, because even its own creator would have no salvation.
