$XRP ISO 20022 will be mandatory starting March 9, 2025 – What does this mean for XRP?
On March 9, 2025, one of the biggest changes in the global financial system will come into effect: ISO 20022 will become mandatory for all banks and financial institutions worldwide. Fedwire will implement it there and Swift in November 2025. This means that the old MT messaging system of SWIFT will be finally replaced by the more modern, efficient, and data-driven ISO 20022 format.
But what does that mean for XRP?
Why is ISO 20022 so important?
ISO 20022 is a unified global messaging standard for financial transactions that enables banks and payment service providers to operate faster, more securely, and with more data. While the old SWIFT system (MT) contained limited information, ISO 20022 allows for detailed, structured, and standardized data.
For banks, this means:
✅ Faster and more efficient payments
✅ Better data quality & fewer errors
✅ More interoperability between different financial systems
How does this affect XRP and Ripple?
Ripple is one of the few blockchain companies that is already ISO 20022 compliant. RippleNet can work directly with the new standard and offers a fast, cost-effective alternative to SWIFT. According to unconfirmed reports, SWIFT will collaborate with Ripple. XRP as a bridge currency could and will gain significance, especially for cross-border payments and liquidity solutions.
Some possible impacts for XRP:
➡️ Increased demand from banks, as they can now easily switch to RippleNet
➡️ Possible growth in the XRP price if institutional adoption increases
➡️ Integration with CBDCs, as many central banks are also adopting ISO 20022
What do you think?
Do you think that the mandatory switch to ISO 20022 will help XRP achieve a major breakthrough? Personally, I think it could be a huge opportunity for XRP.
