Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) is a public network designed to provide a more efficient and secure platform for building decentralized applications (DApps). Hedera differs from traditional blockchain networks by using "Hashgraph" technology, which gives it features such as high speed, low cost, and improved scalability.
The Hedera project was funded through an initial coin offering (ICO) in August 2018, and its mainnet was launched for public use in September 2019. The HBAR token is used within the network for two main purposes: first, as fuel to operate Hedera services such as smart contracts, file storage, and regular transactions; and second, to contribute to the security of the network, where HBAR holders can stake their tokens to help maintain the integrity of the platform.
