The day I discovered the difference between cryptocurrencies and tokens!🤯
I always thought that anything related to crypto was called a "cryptocurrency" and that's it… until the disaster happened!😨
It was an ordinary day, I was sitting with my friends talking about crypto, and suddenly one of them said to me:
"You know that not all cryptocurrencies are called that? There is a difference between cryptocurrencies and tokens!"
I laughed confidently and said: "Come on, they are all the same, in the end, it's just digital money!"😎
But then what I didn't expect happened… suddenly, everything went dark, and I felt like I was being pulled to a strange place, and when I opened my eyes… I found myself in a crypto court!
🚨The Crypto Court
I was standing alone, and there was a judge wearing a robe that said "Satoshi Nakamoto," in front of him was a huge scale shaped like the Bitcoin logo.
And in the chairs, there were two groups of characters,
And each group was holding signs that said:
🔹 "We are the cryptocurrencies!"
🔸 "We are the tokens!"
The judge looked at me sharply and said: "You are accused of spreading crypto ignorance! Tell us… what is the difference between cryptocurrencies and tokens?!"
I was literally confused… but before I could open my mouth, one from the cryptocurrency side (Coins) said:
💎"We are the cryptocurrencies! We are completely independent, and we have our own blockchain networks, like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). We are the foundation, our network is what runs us!"
Then one from the tokens side (Tokens) stood up and said:
💎"We are the tokens, we have VIP cards but we don't have a private network! We operate on top of cryptocurrency networks, which means we use existing blockchains like Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, or Solana. Like USDT, LINK, and SHIBA. We are guests on the network, not its owners!"
This is where I started to understand… cryptocurrencies (Coins) have their own home (their blockchain network), but tokens (Tokens) are just guests living inside someone else's home!
The decisive moment
The judge looked at me and said: "Now… do you admit your mistake?!"
I quickly said: "Yes, yes! Cryptocurrencies have their own blockchain, and tokens use someone else's blockchain!"
The judge smiled and said: "You are acquitted… but there is a condition! Tell people this difference so they don't fall into the same mistake!"
And suddenly… I found myself back in reality, sitting with my friends, still holding my cup!
I looked at them and said confidently:
"Listen up… cryptocurrencies and tokens are not the same, and I'll explain why!"
