An Ahmedabad-based 48-year-old businessman became the victim of a crypto investment scam, losing Rs. 1.92 crore ($221K) after being deceived by a fraudster on Facebook.
📉 How the Scam Unfolded:
The victim accepted a Facebook friend request from a woman claiming to be in the gym equipment business.
Their conversation shifted to WhatsApp, where she introduced him to a supposedly profitable crypto platform.
He made an initial investment of $500, saw a $250 profit, and gained confidence.
Encouraged by the returns, he continued investing, eventually putting in a total of Rs. 6 crore ($692K).
When he attempted to withdraw, he was asked to pay a 20% tax upfront—a major red flag!
The scammer disappeared, and the platform turned out to be fraudulent.
🚔 Authorities Step In: A case has been registered for criminal conspiracy, cheating, and breach of trust. Officials are cautioning the public against unverified crypto schemes and advising investors to use only reliable and regulated platforms.
