#GasFeeImpact Ethereum just raised its gas limit (from 30 million to over 31 million) without a hard fork, as over 50% of validators agreed. The gas limit dictates how many transactions can be in each block. Gas is a measure of the “computational effort” of transactions and smart contracts.

According to gaslimit(.)pics, the 24-hour average is around 31.5 million and could go as high as 36 million. Despite the Dencun upgrades and proto-dank sharding, increasing the gas limit is still necessary for Ethereum to process more transactions.
