Microsoft launches its first quantum computing chip Majorana 1, potentially threatening cryptocurrencies
According to Cointelegraph, Microsoft released its first quantum computing chip Majorana 1 on February 19, joining the ranks of companies pursuing this technology. The chip is made of semiconductors and superconductors, using materials different from solids, gases, and liquids.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated that this breakthrough will shorten the realization of quantum computers from decades to years. Microsoft Executive Vice President Jason Zander said that this theory, proposed in 1937, took nearly a century to be validated.
Microsoft's research results were published on February 19 in the journal (Nature). Quantum chips process information differently from traditional computer chips; quantum bits can represent both 0 and 1 simultaneously, enabling faster problem-solving.
