On the air since 1989, the animated series The Simpsons became known for “predicting the future”, such as when they put Donald Trump as president of the United States, 15 years before that happened. But could their prediction about the price of the cryptocurrency Ripple (XRP) come true?

In the episode Frinkcoin, aired on February 23, 2020, Bart Simpson writes a price prediction for XRP on the board several times. This episode also explains how paper money will be phased out and replaced by cryptocurrencies.

“XRP will hit $589 by the end of the year.”

The reason the image has been circulating again in recent days is related to the development of the SEC's lawsuit against Ripple, which is expected to come to an end in the coming months. With that, portals like BeInCrypto questioned whether the Simpsons' prediction about XRP could come true.

Bart Simpson is not very good at math

If $XRP reaches a value of $589 per unit, this means that Ripple's market value would reach $29.4 trillion, or 80 times more than Bitcoin.

The number is also absurd when compared to all other cryptocurrencies combined. After all, this number is 1 trillion, which would make Ripple 29 times bigger than the entire market. If XRP reaches $589 as the Simpsons pointed out, its value would be almost 3 times greater than gold, currently with a market cap of $10.9 trillion.

Ultimately, it’s hard to believe that The Simpsons’ prediction about Ripple (XRP) reaching $589 will come true. Still, it’s interesting to know that its writers have been following the cryptocurrency market for so many years.
