Many bought $USUAL at high prices - around $1 and even higher. After a significant drop in the rate, many investors (including me) found themselves in the red, not knowing what to do next.

However, there is one option to benefit from this situation – staking USUALx on the Usual.money platform. It allows you to receive passive income in the form of new USUAL and USD0 tokens, which in the long run can help partially or even completely offset losses.
I decided to use my own example to understand how staking works, what income you can get, and what you need to consider to increase your chances of recovering your investment.
In this article, I will share my own experience to help you stake USUALx correctly and maximize your profits.
What is USUALx and how does it work?
USUALx is a token that entitles you to receive income from the Usual platform. To receive USUALx, you need to stake USUAL tokens.
The basic principle of operation:
You withdraw all your USUAL from the exchange to an external wallet (I use Metamask)
Connect this wallet on the usual.money platform
Convert USUAL to USUALx on the platform (make sure you have enough ETH on the same wallet to pay the gas fee). Also note that when you click the "approve" button, you will need to additionally confirm this action in your wallet.
If everything is successful, after a week of verification you will start receiving rewards in the form of USUAL and USD0 (liquidity rewards have a 7-day verification period before distribution begins).
If you want to increase your income, reinvest the earned USUALs into new USUALx.
My real example:
At the time of writing, my position is as follows:

177.821 USUALx (which is equivalent to 229.07 USUAL that I staked).
APR profitability is 208% (of which 119% in USUAL and 89% in USD0).
Additionally, +0.49 USUAL was accrued, which I have not yet reinvested.
The total amount of tokens in stake is approximately $57 (229.07 USUAL × $0.2496), as of 02/13/25.
What profit can I get?
Let's consider two scenarios:
1. If you don't reinvest the income
Let's assume that the APR will gradually decrease to 100%, and the price of USUAL will increase to at least $0.6 per year.
In this case, my passive income for the year will be:
~ 177.8 USUALx × 100% = 177.8 USUAL
At the new price of $0.6, this is $106.68 in profit, excluding initial capital.
2. If you reinvest the income, say, every 2 months
If I stake my earned USUAL every 2 months, my profit will grow due to compound interest. In this case, my final capital can grow approximately 2 times compared to the first option (~$200 instead of $106).
That is, reinvestment significantly increases income, so it is important to periodically invest earned tokens back into USUALx.
How to withdraw or reinvest earned USUAL?
On the Usual platform, your earnings are divided into two components:
Pending Rewards (USD0) – must be stamped manually.
Automatically accumulated USUALs – appear in your USUALx position.
To reinvest them, you need to:
Claim (withdraw) earned USUAL to your balance.
Convert them to USUALx via the Earn tab.
👉 Important point: gas fee! Any transactions outside of exchanges (conversion, staking, reward branding) are accompanied by a gas fee!
For example, when I want to reinvest profits, I need to:
Brands earned USUAL
Convert them to USUALx
For these transactions I have to pay gas fees. Sometimes this fee can cost more than the profit itself (depending on the total amount you stake, in my case the amount is small), which makes reinvesting impractical. So I plan to do it at least every 2 months to reduce costs. Another way to reduce commission costs is to monitor the commission level. During inactive periods (for example, at 3:00 AM UTC), gas is often cheaper, so reinvesting can be more profitable.
Conclusions:
USUALx is an interesting passive income option, especially if you bought USUAL at high prices and are now looking for a way to partially recoup your losses.
APRs change, so it's important to keep an eye on the current figures.
Reinvestment increases profits several times, but you need to take into account the cost of gas commission.
Profits are split between USUAL and USD0, so it is important to regularly check your balance and stamp your rewards.
Keep an eye on the price of gas – sometimes it's more profitable to wait than to reinvest right away.
