📌 #BitcoinOS officially integrates with Arbitrum, opening the door to connect Bitcoin with the Ethereum ecosystem without a third party.
🔥 The First "Trustless" Bridge Between Bitcoin & Ethereum
After 15 years, Bitcoin finally has a way to approach DeFi without Wrapped BTC (WBTC) or intermediaries. This new solution comes from BitcoinOS, a dedicated rollup layer for Bitcoin, which has just integrated with Arbitrum One – the leading layer 2 network on $ETH .
🔹 What is special about this solution?
No need for Wrapped BTC (WBTC): Previously, to use $BTC in the Ethereum ecosystem, users had to convert to WBTC – a token representing BTC but controlled by BitGo. No need to trust third parties: Traditional bridges like WBTC require users to send BTC to a third-party custody, which poses risks of loss or fraud. Direct transactions between Bitcoin & Ethereum: BitcoinOS enables BTC to participate in DeFi on Ethereum without going through financial intermediaries.
According to Edan Yago, CEO of BTC OS, this bridge will be trusted more than previous Bitcoin DeFi solutions, as users have complete control over their assets.
🚀 Why is this a breakthrough for DeFi?
👉 Arbitrum is currently the largest layer 2 network on Ethereum (according to L2BEAT). With this integration, $ARB will also immediately become the largest layer 2 for Bitcoin.
👉 BTC DeFi could explode in the next two years. Currently, the total value of WBTC is only about $12.6 billion – equivalent to 0.65% of the total Bitcoin supply. If BTC can naturally participate in DeFi, this capital could skyrocket.
👉 BitcoinOS can activate a flow of $2 trillion from Bitcoin into DeFi. The Arbitrum team expects a large portion of BTC's market capitalization to be funneled into decentralized finance applications and smart contracts on Ethereum.
⚡ Bitcoin DeFi – Is the Opportunity Here?
Previously, using Bitcoin in DeFi was always limited by technological barriers and dependence on third parties. But with the advent of BitcoinOS and the bridge to Arbitrum, Bitcoin DeFi is entering a new chapter, allowing BTC to participate in DeFi in a decentralized, secure, and easier way than ever.
