Follow the "foolish four". In the mid-1990s, the Motley Fool website (and some books) promoted a technique called "foolish four". According to the Motley Fool, you can "smash the market averages from 25 years ago" and can "crush your mutual funds" by "just spending 15 minutes each year" to plan your investments. All you need to do is:
1 Choose five stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average with the lowest prices and the highest dividend yields.
2 Eliminate the stock with the lowest price.
3 Allocate 40% of your money to the second lowest priced stock.
4 Allocate 20% to the remaining three stocks.
5 One year later, repeat the Dow list as above and reset your portfolio from step 1 to step 4.
6 Repeat until you are rich.
