A petition calling for the impeachment of US President Donald Trump $TRUMP has received more than 100,000 signatures just days into his second term, which began on January 20, according to Newsweek.
The support for Trump's impeachment underscores the deep political divisions in the country and the reactions to his campaign and the actions he took in the early days of his second term. Indeed, Trump was impeached twice during his first term, but the Senate acquitted him in both cases.
According to Newsweek, the nonprofit organization Free Speech for People launched the petition on the day Trump returned to the White House. The campaign calls on Congress to launch an impeachment investigation into alleged violations of the emoluments clause that prohibits the president from benefiting from the United States, individual states, or foreign governments, and his behavior, which the organization described as "illegal" and "corrupt" during his election campaign and his pardon of those who participated in the storming of Congress.
