Ripple to Launch 1 Billion XRP on February 1, 2025 – Is It Time to Sell?
Ripple, the company behind the XRPL network and XRP, will launch 1 billion XRP on Saturday, February 1, 2025. At current prices, this amount is worth around $3.10 billion, and Ripple may sell a portion of it over the course of the month.
When XRP launched in 2012, Ripple held 80 billion units of the supply out of circulation, gradually selling them and distributing them to the market. In 2017, the company implemented an “escrow” system to lock up the remaining 55 billion XRP that had not been distributed, with a scheduled monthly release.
This system is still in effect today, as Ripple continues to release 1 billion XRP on the first day of each month, allocating a portion (usually 20%) to its monthly sales and spending, while re-locking the remaining balance into new escrow deposits for the coming years.
