DeepSeek AI has become "bait" for crypto scams
The AI model #DeepSeek from China, known for its high performance and low cost, is attracting global attention. However, this popularity has also brought a wave of fake tokens on the $ETH and $SOL networks aimed at scamming cryptocurrency traders.
According to security company #Blockaid , over the past 24 hours, more than 75 fake tokens claiming to be DeepSeek have appeared. Notably, DeepSeek has never released any tokens or been involved in the crypto market.
Sophisticated tricks of scammers
Fake websites: Some scam websites are designed to look exactly like the DeepSeek application, asking users to connect their crypto wallets. This action will result in the theft of all assets in the wallet.
Capitalizing on the AI trend: With the boom of AI-related projects, scammers exploit users' FOMO (fear of missing out) mentality to lure them into investing in fake tokens.
Building trust through high-profile events: The recent launch of a meme coin by President Donald Trump has made false claims about major projects seem more credible.
Efforts to prevent but not thorough
Platforms like Uniswap, DexScreener, and Blockaid have collaborated to detect and eliminate scam tokens. However, the continuous emergence of fake tokens makes control a "whack-a-mole" game.
Currently, some fake DeepSeek tokens are still appearing on platforms like Uniswap and Pump.fun, a popular launchpad for Solana meme coins.
High risks in the crypto market
As crypto becomes more popular, scams targeting inexperienced users are on the rise. This is a tough problem for the crypto community, which values decentralization and freedom, but also needs measures to protect users from the risks of fraud.
Advice for investors
Be cautious with new tokens related to famous projects, especially when there is no official information.
Thoroughly check the origins before trading, avoiding connecting wallets with unreliable websites.
Note: Investing in crypto always carries risks. Investors need to do thorough research before participating.
