Half of cryptocurrency billionaires invest in Bitcoin
With the boom in cryptocurrencies over the past year, a new millionaire was added to the list of the richest people every 6 minutes or so, according to data from the global consulting firm Henley & Partners and calculations by Al Arabiya Business.
The data reveals that the number of cryptocurrency millionaires rose to 172.3 thousand at the end of last year from about 88.2 thousand at the end of 2023.
The number of people who own $100 million reached 325 people, and the number of billionaires increased to 28 people, compared to 182 and 22 respectively.
As cryptocurrency prices continue to rise, the momentum looks set to continue into 2025, and the latest billionaire is a very familiar face: Melania Trump, wife of US President Donald Trump, after launching a cryptocurrency bearing her name, which reached a market value of billions in the first hours of trading before the token’s market cap fell below $1 billion.
According to Forbes estimates, the wealth of the 4 richest cryptocurrency billionaires currently amounts to $98.8 billion.
Bitcoin makes half the rich
Bitcoin was the investment that made 85,400 people millionaires, up 111% from last year, while it was responsible for the wealth of 156 people with $100 million or more, and about 11 billionaires in 2024.
The largest cryptocurrency accounted for $1.2 trillion of the total cryptocurrency market cap of $2.3 trillion.
The number of Bitcoin holders grew by 32% to 275 million people out of a total of 560 million people investing in cryptocurrencies.
