On January 14, 2025, the blockchain division of the Japanese corporation Sony, Sony Block Solutions Labs (Sony BSL), announced the launch of the mainnet of Soneium, a Layer 2 solution based on $ETH Ethereum.
#Sony Soneium is built using the Optimism Foundation's OP Stack and Superchain tools and is designed to support an ecosystem of financial and entertainment applications focused on content creators and their communities.
During the testing period, which began in August 2024, the Soneium Minato test network registered 17 million accounts, over 47 million transactions were conducted, and around 1700 applications were created.
Along with the launch of Soneium, Sony BSL introduced an updated version of the cryptocurrency exchange S.BLOX, previously known as WhaleFin, which was acquired by Sony Group in August 2023.
In February 2025, the launch of the NFT platform Fan Marketing Platform on the Soneium blockchain by SNFT Inc. is planned.
The launch of Soneium reflects the desire to integrate blockchain technologies into its products and services, providing creators and their audiences with new opportunities for interaction and protection of rights in the digital space.
