Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City Pioneers Digital Asset Adoption
Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), Bhutan’s new Special Administrative Region (SAR), has announced its plans to include digital assets like Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and BNB in its strategic reserves. This move positions GMC as one of the first jurisdictions to officially recognize digital assets as part of its economic strategy.
GMC aims to include digital assets with large market capitalizations, deep liquidity, and secure blockchains to enhance economic resilience. Strategically located in South Asia, GMC seeks to promote blockchain technology, aligning with its vision of innovation and technological advancement.
This announcement follows the enactment of the 'Application of Laws Act 2024,' which established a regulatory framework for digital asset services in GMC. In March 2025, GMC will host a global summit in Bhutan to discuss the role of digital assets in strategic reserves and set up an international advisory panel.
This initiative marks a significant step in advancing the digital asset ecosystem within a secure and regulated environment.
