Which is more important — the goal or the process?

It's a trick question. Whatever answer you choose, it will be wrong. The fact is that both a person who sees only the goal in front of him or her, and a person who simply “enjoys the process”, reduce their chances of getting results.

First of all, those who forget about the goal — that is, about why everything was started in the first place. The result is either turning off the path, or hanging on one of the stages.

🙃 The hard worker has already forgotten that he needed a two-meter long ditch, and there are many other tasks ahead of him in terms of landscaping. He just digs from fence to lunch every day! "Enjoying" the process, yeah.

But full concentration on the main goal is also harmful. Then the whole point of work is reduced to the reward, and the process itself is perceived as something unpleasant, difficult, exhausting.

“I want to make a million!” But the million is still somewhere on the horizon or even beyond it, and all around is labor and gloom. There is a feeling that life is wasted. There is discouragement and frustration, and with them — the desire to send everything to hell 🤬

👌 What do psychologists recommend? Learn to get pleasure from the difficult things in the current moment. This ability is developed, and literally at the physiological level: thanks to dopamine.

A person is able to get a high from hard work, accomplishing difficult tasks, overcoming obstacles, searching for answers to challenges (😵 that's why easy and routine work causes boredom). At such moments, one should not think about the main goal — let it loom somewhere ahead, like a beacon, so that the guiding line is visible.

🧑‍💻 You should think not about the goal and the reward, but about what you are doing at that moment. Then reaching the goal will become a joyful event: “Wow, I had so much fun working, and they gave me some goodies too!”.
Trading is a clear illustration of how this works. You should not think about future millions while placing another position.
