The value of LUNA was established in such a way that the fluctuations of Terra's algorithmic stablecoin, US Terra (UST), would be managed by the liquidity of LUNA. In retrospect, it was an absurd model that something as fluctuating as a cryptocurrency with no use case could make a stablecoin "stable". UST also had nothing backing it.
