How would you explain cryptocurrencies to my grandfather?”
One day, I was sitting with my grandfather and he asked me curiously: “What are these cryptocurrencies you always talk about? Are they like paper money, or are they something imaginary?”
I started to explain to him, but in a very simple way:
“Imagine, Grandpa, that cryptocurrencies are like gold, but you can’t see them in your hand. Instead of keeping them in your pocket or under your bed, they are stored online in something called a digital wallet.”
He replied in amazement: “But if I can’t touch them, how can they be real?”
I said: “You know, Grandpa, how your bank account only shows you numbers, and you only see the money when you withdraw it? Cryptocurrencies are similar, but they are different because they don’t rely on banks. Instead, every purchase and sale is recorded on a large online ledger called the ‘blockchain.’”
He looked at me with admiration and said: “So, this blockchain is like my ledger where I write down everything I buy and sell, but it’s online?”
I nodded and said, “Exactly! Think of Bitcoin as digital gold, while there are other currencies like Ethereum that help build smart applications on the internet.”
He smiled and said, “Well, if these currencies are like gold, can I buy a sheep with them?”
I laughed and said, “Of course! Some stores accept cryptocurrencies now.And if you want, I can show you how to buy….
