According to documents from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Microsoft plans to allow shareholders to vote on a proposal titled "Assessment of Investment in Bitcoin" at the annual shareholder meeting on December 9. This proposal was put forward by the conservative think tank National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), which is also a member of the 2025 Project Advisory Committee. NCPPR pointed out in the proposal that Microsoft's current investment in corporate bonds is just slightly above the inflation rate and recommended that the company consider diversifying its assets by investing in Bitcoin, as Bitcoin is an "excellent inflation hedge tool."
However, Microsoft's board of directors recommends that shareholders vote against this proposal. The board stated that the company does not need to assess investing in Bitcoin because "Microsoft's management team has already carefully considered this topic." Microsoft has a global financial and investment services team that regularly evaluates various potential investments to effectively diversify Microsoft's assets and protect shareholders from inflation. This team has previously considered Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
If Microsoft decides to invest in Bitcoin, it would be another major U.S. company investing in Bitcoin following MicroStrategy.
