$ICP 🧠📖🔍 Many misunderstand the concept of max supply and a blockchain's core utility token. When a blockchain has a max supply, it essentially bets that by the time this limit is reached, it will be able to cover all rewards (for nodes, staking, and governance) through fees.
If this fails to occur and the blockchain cannot cover all rewards through transaction fees alone, it faces limited options:
1. Shut down the network,
2. Increase the token supply
3. Increase fees.
Well-designed blockchains incorporate burning mechanisms, so when the network is thriving, the total supply decreases, and when the network faces challenges, rewards are covered through token emission.
Invest based on the utility that the blockchain can provide, not the misleading max supply metric. Remember, it's all software, so the arbitrarily set max supply parameter can easily change, and it will if the alternative is network shutdown.
