Ahmedabad Shailesh Babulal Bhatt became a victim of a fraudulent scheme by purchasing the native coin of the BitConnect Coin project. In an attempt to "return the investment", he and his accomplices kidnapped two employees of the scam project and extorted 2091 BTC, 11,000 LTC and about $1.7 million from them in exchange for their release.
The BitConnect cryptocurrency financial pyramid operated from 2016 to 2018. As a result of its collapse, 4,000 people from 95 countries lost about $2.4 billion.
