Recently, Dogecoin Core is expected to undergo another major upgrade, which is crucial to the health of the network. This upgrade will introduce some major fixes, the most important of which is to increase trust in the system and not allow malicious code or entities to take over the network.

Protecting Dogecoin Core

Recently, developer @chromatic_x on X (formerly Twitter) announced on the social media platform that an upgrade to Dogecoin Core is coming soon. This upgrade is called Dogecoin Core 1.14.8 and it will improve the security of the network when used.

Dogecoin developers say the upgrade is important because it is impossible to audit every line of code, especially by one person. This means that network users, like other networks, must trust others when using the network. But how can this trust not harm users?

The upgrade ensures that malicious clients cannot enter the network and perform a number of actions, including jamming the network, compromising built content, taking over the network, or exfiltrating user identities and private keys.

Therefore, in the latest upgrade, different developers must perform the compilation process to ensure that they produce the exact same output. Producing the same output means that the client works as expected, ensuring that users do not have to do so blindly while having to trust others.

In the post, the developer revealed that the upgrade is coming soon as it has passed the stage where multiple developers are able to get the same output from running the compilation process. Therefore, reproducibility is not far away.

Dogecoin developers warn that this process does not mean there won’t be any bugs or flaws. “We can’t guarantee perfection. The software is too complex. As an industry, we can’t afford that,” the developers said. {However, we can offer you transparency. That’s a price we’re always willing to pay.}

Fix previous issues

While the current Dogecoin Core upgrade may have its own bugs and issues, its implementation is important as developers begin to fix the bugs in the previous version. In addition, Github outlines the system fixes that will be made as well as test fixes.

The listed fixes include updating CI as well as TxRequestTracker fixes. Additionally, it is expected that fixed dependencies will be updated and other maintenance tasks will be performed after the upgrade.
