【Mt. Gox creditor accounts suffered multiple failed login attempts】Creditors of the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox reported multiple failed login attempts to their accounts. This situation was caused by Mt. Gox starting to repay its creditors. Someone is apparently trying to log into the creditors' Mt. Gox accounts, and several users on Reddit reported that they had experienced up to 22 failed login attempts as of Thursday. "Just received 15 account login notifications. Can't get into my account now. Has Mt. Gox been attacked???" Reddit user ovkovk posted a popular post on the r/mtgoxinsolvency forum, claiming that "Thank God you can't change the payee information now. Still receiving login emails. 22 so far." More than 15 other users reported that they had received similar login notifications, indicating that an unknown individual was trying to log into the Mt. Gox account to control the account and potentially withdraw any received bitcoins. The Mt. Gox claims portal is "temporarily closed for maintenance," the website shows. A user named u/Joohansson said such attempts had been made on their Mt. Gox accounts before, and that accounts with 2FA enabled, a popular security authentication system, were probably safe. "I'm guessing some attacker logged all (or a lot of) gox emails and tried to brute force their way in. This has happened before. As long as you have 2FA you should "hopefully" be safe," the user said. In early July, bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Mt. Gox began paying back creditors affected by the 2014 hack. More than $9 billion worth of bitcoin and $73 million worth of bitcoin cash (BCH) will be distributed to traders in the coming months.
