Bitcoin & Altcoin Volume Falls—Investor Exhaustion?
On-chain data suggests Bitcoin and altcoin trading volume is declining, indicating trader interest is diminishing.
Santiment, an on-chain analytics startup, recently published on X regarding the decrease in trade volume throughout the bitcoin market.
The “trading volume” of a coin is the total quantity traded on all exchanges in the last 24 hours. This indicator should not be confused with "transaction volume," which tracks network transfers, including P2P trading.
Rising trading volume indicates more exchange deals by investors. This indicates rising bitcoin interest.
However, a declining indicator means traders are paying less attention to the currency and making fewer transactions.
The analytics company published this data showing Bitcoin and top altcoin trading volume over the previous month:
As seen in the graph above, sector trade volume peaked late last month, indicating that investors were making many Bitcoin and corporate spot movements.
Trading activity increased as asset prices fell. In turbulent moments, traders panic and sell or purchase, bringing the market alive. Thus, volume increase makes logical.
Volatility has maintained in the previous two weeks, although volume has been falling. There have been upward surges, but the trend has been down.
"When trading volume for major cryptocurrencies consistently drops, even during slight price recoveries (like Wednesday), it typically points toward diminishing trader enthusiasm," says Santiment.
Price changes have always needed investor interest to persist. Only when many investors trade can swings like these get the gasoline they require.
Since trader activity seems to be waning, Bitcoin and other assets may not be able to rebound.
Bulls want growing prices and volumes concurrently to imply a better and more lasting recovery, says the analytics business. “Until trading activity increases meaningfully, cautious market sentiment will dominate.”
