The House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States: which one has more power?
The House of Representatives and the Senate of the United States have equal power but serve different roles:
Senate: Approves presidential nominations, ratifies treaties, conducts impeachment trials — including the impeachment of the president, but cannot initiate it on its own.
House of Representatives: Initiates tax legislation and is the only chamber that can start the impeachment process, including the impeachment of the president.
Both chambers: Must pass the same version of a bill for it to become law.
They balance each other in the system of checks and balances, with neither chamber being superior to the other.
