I recently learned about OpenLedger and really impressed. It sounds technical at first, but the idea behind it is actually quite simple and important.
Most AI systems today are complete black boxes. You feed them data, they get smarter, and the big companies pocket all the value. The people whose data, feedback, or refinements actually helped create that intelligence? They usually get zero credit and zero reward.
OpenLedger is trying to fix this with Influence Function.
In simple terms, it measures exactly how much a specific piece of data actually influenced the final AI output. For smaller models, it uses classic gradient based methods to see how much the model’s prediction would change if that data point was removed. For bigger models, they use a more efficient technique based on suffix arrays (Infini gram) to track which parts of the training data affected specific tokens in the answer.
This isn’t just for show.

The Influence Function powers their Proof of Attribution (PoA) system. It creates a clear, on chain record of who contributed what and how much impact they had. When the AI generates something valuable, the system can automatically distribute $OPEN rewards to the real contributors based on their actual influence.
From a user’s point of view, this changes the whole experience. You’re no longer just giving away your data for free. Your contributions, whether it’s specialized data in Datanets, feedback, or model improvements, can earn real, ongoing rewards whenever they’re used.
For the crypto space, this is actually meaningful. Most AI tokens are just hype around faster models or agents. OpenLedger is building the economic layer underneath, turning data from “free raw material” into something people can actually own and monetize.

It’s still early, and scaling accurate attribution at massive volume won’t be easy, but the direction feels right. If they can make this work reliably, it could help create a much fairer AI economy where the people who help build the intelligence actually get paid for it.
