Apparently I would rather talk about real-time decentralized systems all day (@Aptos & @shelbyserves) vs go to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be interesting.

Excited to see our investor @katie_haun advocating for financial privacy! https://t.co/IAoAfEvDm3 I also believe in compliant confidentiality. It’s why we built compliant confidential transactions on @Aptos (https://t.co/ERWXCMNeFP) as an important feature for large-scale stablecoin adoption.

Shelby fun opinions @shelbyserves interest is growing very fast and there are fantastic questions about the data lifecycle. My opinions below: 1) High-performance decentralized hot storage is a new category. The most important one that Shelby serves. It’s necessary for any real-time serving use case. 2) Data has a lifecycle. Working on data infrastructure at Meta for 7 years - we saw the server data would be highly accessed for the first 1-3 days, counting DAU for example. Then it would drop to less than 1/10 of the accesses and then after a retention period, move to archival storage or just be deleted. In the supercomputing space it was parallel file systems like Lustre, Panasys, GPFS, etc. were used for “scratch” storage. NFS might be the longer term storage. Shelby, in the fullness of time, should support the full data lifecycle. 3) Hot data in @shelbyserves should be cached and there should be incentives to supporting ultra low-latency reads and paying for in-memory costs. 4) There will be compute layers built on Shelby. The white paper describes several different use cases and approaches. 5) Shelby is for all devs. Large enterprises and small startups. All blockchains. Shelby is the answer for building real-time decentralized apps, for everyone.

There was a saying at Facebook that the journey is only 1% finished. Crypto isn’t even at 1% yet. @shelbyserves gives us access to the missing >99%

Another fun fact about @shelbyserves: In a previous life at Facebook, @rpranav @bchochain @sitalkedia worked on the data infrastructure that processed more than > 1.5 exabytes per day on >100,000 machines. Now we’re building a decentralized hot storage layer that will be even capable of more. Shelby

Value exchange <> Value creation A global trading engine trades everything. Crypto assets, RWAs, stables, and data. @shelbyserves makes the possibilities endless: 1) Users license their data to anyone - With Shelby you’re in control of your data. No one can delete it except you. With high-speed hot serving you can allow a YouTube or another front end to share your content and pay you per read and/or a subscription. 2) Creator negotiate better take rates (e.g. 55% could be 90 or 100%) - With Shelby able to support real-time steaming, anyone can create their own content site/app and undercut others based on competitive payouts. Creators can easily create their own content sites. 3) Data can be traded - Content that generates revenue can be bought/sold and traded on the global trading engine as a completely new asset class. @shelbyserves is a game-changer.

I’m convinced that decentralized infrastructure is the only technology for people everywhere to communicate, collaborate, and form unstoppable bonds with each other. Trustless transactions are one of the most powerful technologies in the world that is not even at 0.1% of its full potential. Our world consists of countries that are aligned and odds with each other. Unshakable collaboration and trust is impossible in an environment where anyone can unilaterally cut ties in an instant. @AptosLabs is and always will be innovating and building products toward this end.

90+ degrees in @expo2025japan and still 150k-200k per day visitors coming. Double digit percentage using the Expo wallet on @Aptos. Massive line of Expo wallet users with their soul bound tokens behind us. Congrats to our partners at @hashport_io and @seihakuyoshida!

There are no boundaries to decentralized technology. We’ll break them all.

Grateful for the chance to testify at today’s @HouseAgGOP hearing. I shared why digital assets go far beyond speculation - they’re powering a new kind of infrastructure: one that’s transparent, programmable, and accessible to all. Just as the U.S. became the hub for Internet-based innovation, I believe it will also lead the next era of the Internet—if we provide developers with clear, thoughtful guidance and responsible regulation. It's very impressive to see such a united committee working so hard to advance U.S. leadership in the blockchain revolution.

Honored to be asked to testify in front of @houseagGOP for their committee hearing on American Innovation and the Future of Digital Assets: From Blueprint to a Functional Framework on 6/4 (Wednesday). Market structure legislation is an important step forward and I’m looking forward to sharing how @AptosLabs and the broader L1 ecosystem can power this next era of the decentralized Internet. https://t.co/vbG1jhDTQI Time to don the suit again.

Honored to be interviewed by @NorthwesternEng about @Aptos and my undergraduate / PhD studies - 9 years in total. While some think a PhD is not that useful, I learned how to learn, the scientific method, and how to take on hard challenges. As a bonus, I had Q clearance (i.e., top secret) - which was an experience! Blessed to have an incredible PhD advisor to take me through the process.

Zooming out to zoom in. The global trading engine is going to radically change the way we think about what decentralized blockchains are capable of. I couldn’t be more bullish on what’s to come.

Depin has two large on-chain components: payments and coordination. Payments on-chain can be from clients to depin service providers or internal payments between service providers. As an example, WiFi access charged by the minute, paying to use compute/storage, paying people for sharing traffic data, etc. Real-time on-chain payments need to be extremely reliable, fast, and scalable. This is why rAPTr, Zaptos, Block-STM, Move, and more. In a typical distributed system, machine management is handled by a coordination layer such as ZooKeeper or etcd. Coordination layers support leader elections, leader rotation, data migration, distributed locks, and failover for machine loss. I’ve had the joy of rebuilding this infrastructure many times - lots of fun each time. A decentralized distributed system can leverage a blockchain for the same purpose. However, these types of transactions are typically much more expensive compared to their traditional counterparts. For example - you might have a decentralized AI training cluster of thousands of machines reporting their health to the blockchain every second. These scale & data obstacles are harder to solve and we why we don’t see depin apps trying to do coordination on blockchains. It’s why Aptos is built for such extreme scale and continuing to push boundaries with Shardines and other cutting edge tech. Innovators will coordinate their applications here. The global trading engine is the base layer for everything that blockchains will do in the future. Still early, but the path is clearly lit and innovation is coming fast.
