The BitVM Bridge fundamentally disrupts traditional bridging models—it does not require any changes to Bitcoin’s core protocol.
Why This Matters
No protocol modifications needed
Unlike many proposals that hinge on soft forks or consensus-layer tweaks, the BitVM Bridge operates on standard Bitcoin infrastructure. It leverages BitVM—a smart contract framework constructed off-chain and deployed via pre-signed transactions—to facilitate bridging with zero modifications to Bitcoin itself.
Trust-minimized architecture
Unlike legacy multisig bridges that depend on a majority of signers remaining honest, BitVM Bridge adopts a 1-of-N security model: as long as at least one participant remains honest, the funds are secure. This significantly enhances security while keeping the bridge decentralized.
Already live in mainnet beta
The BitVM Bridge is no longer theoretical—it’s live. Users can lock BTC into the BitVM smart contract on Bitcoin, mint YBTC (a 1:1 pegged token) on supported ecosystems, and trust that the bridge clears security and decentralization hurdles without touching Bitcoin’s protocol.
Expanding interoperability ecosystem
BitVM Bridge is actively enabling BTC use across diverse networks—Sui, Base, Arbitrum, Starknet, Sonic, Plume Network, and more bringing Bitcoin liquidity into DeFi and beyond.
