Today, Galactica, the first phase of VeChain Renaissance, successfully merged with mainnet in block 22084200!
VeChainThor now officially benefits from four new upgrades that improve the protocol, and lay the foundations for more radical changes due later this year. The next phase, Hayabusa, delivers consensus migration, Delegator/Validator staking, a tokenomics overhaul, and much more, continuing along the game-changing VeChain Renaissance roadmap.

Four VIPs Merge With Mainnet
Dynamic Fee Market (VIP-251): Remodelling VTHO Economics
To ensure greater network security, VeChainThor introduces a dynamic gas fee market inspired by Ethereum’s EIP-1559, where base fees automatically adjust based on network demand to prevent spam attacks and encourage more efficient transaction broadcasting. Through this change, 100% of base fees are burned, removing VTHO from circulation with every transaction.
The gas fee market introduces a deflationary force to VeChain’s tokenomics, and adds the ability for users include priority fees (“tips”) to expedite transactions. 100% of tips will go directly to network validators as rewards under Hayabusa.
Shanghai EVM Upgrade (VIP-242)
VeChainThor is now aligned with Ethereum’s Shanghai release, introducing PUSH0 opcodes and optimized gas costs. This synchronization with industry standards creates a seamless pathway for developers to migrate tools, dApps, and innovations to VeChainThor.
The upgrade maintains all VeChain’s unique advantages — our two-token model, fee delegation, and multi-clause transactions — while opening the door to tools and builders from the broader EVM ecosystem.
Typed Transactions (VIP-252): Future-Proof Flexibility
Our new standardized transaction envelope format enables VeChainThor to identify and process different transaction types seamlessly. This modular architecture ensures the protocol can evolve continuously without disrupting existing operations or fragmenting the ecosystem.
Extension Contract v2 > v3 (VIP-250): Community-Driven Innovation
Thanks to community developer DataB4Dishonor, smart contract interactions have become more efficient with the introduction of new functions for retrieving transaction clause data. It’s a perfect example of how VeChain Renaissance empowers community contributions at the protocol level.
