➥ How Will Potential Interest Rate Cuts Affect Stablecoins?
In the first half of 2025 alone, we have seen the launch of many stablecoins with different mechanics and backing assets.
However, potential upcoming interest rate cuts might present a new challenge for stablecoins issuers.
Rate cuts will likely reduce revenues for stablecoin issuers, especially those that rely primarily on risk-free rates from U.S. Treasuries (government debt) like Tether, Circle and other some RWA-based stablecoins.
Imagine this:
→ You mint $1,000 USDC/USDT
→ Issuers keep your $1000 and buy short-term U.S. Treasuries
→ If interest = 4.5%, they earn ~$45/year on your deposit (that's billions of revenue btw if you refer to their marketcap)
→ If interest rate dropped to 1-2% = ~$10-$20/year, around a 60-80% drop in income
This may benefit DeFi borrowers but could prompt issuers to adjust to the low-inflation environment, as their highly profitable business could see diminished revenues.
However, for some stablecoin issuers like @ethena_labs, this is their moment to shine.
Ethena's stablecoin, $USDe, thrives in low inflation by offering yields independent of traditional bank rates, thanks to staking rewards and funding rates.
Plus, $USDe is versatile, user can utilize it across major chains and DeFi protocols to boost their yield on top of the base yield.
In essence, when interest rates drop:
→ Demand for riskier assets rises
→ Capital flows into DeFi, pushing up funding rates (i.e.: +15% in December 2024 as rates cut to 4.25%-4.5%)
→ Ethena's protocol revenue climbs, yield sustained.
---
— Wrap-Up
Ethena's revenue has surged past $400M, with TVL climbing over $6.7B. The future looks bright for DeFi, as a low-interest rate climate could be the perfect spark for stablecoin protocols to discover new revenue streams, moving beyond their past dependency on risk-free rates.
Honestly, we may be in the "All at Once" phase following the "Slowly, Then All at Once" trajectory.
DeFi is destined to win.

🚀 BTC Closes Q2 Up 30% — Standard Chartered Predicts $200K by Year-End
Bitcoin's price is barely around $109,000 on Friday after breaking out of a zone where prices were stable.
BTC ends the second quarter with a gain of about 30% and Standard Chartered thinks Bitcoin will be worth $200,000 by the end of the year.
There was still a lot of demand for BTC as companies bought more and spot ETFs reached a total of $769.60 million on Thursday.
Bitcoin (BTC) had a solid second quarter (Q2), with gains of about 30% throughout the quarter thanks to increased demand from businesses and institutions and a positive market mood. BTC is trading a little lower than $109,000 right now, after breaking out of a consolidation period earlier this week. The positive prognosis is still strong, with projections from Standard Chartered saying that Bitcoin might be worth $200,000 by the end of the year. Meanwhile, demand from businesses and institutions was robust all week, which might mean that BTC will rise near its all-time highs.
Bitcoin's return in the second quarter was about 30%, and analysts think it will be worth $200,000 by the end of the year.
BTC's Q2 returns were good, at 29.74%, which is better than its average Q2 returns and the strongest second quarter since 2020. This was due to increased demand and excellent risk-on attitude conditions.
Geoffrey Kendrick, who is in charge of Standard Chartered's Global Head of Digital Assets Research, said that Bitcoin might be worth $135,000 by the end of 2025 and maybe even $200,000 by the end of the year.

The US House Designates July 14-18 as “Crypto Week”.
The US House members have declared the week of July 14 as “Crypto Week,” another pro-crypto act focused on driving digital asset innovation in America
French Hill, the chairman of the Committee on Financial Services, and GT Thompson, the chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, along with other key House leadership, endorsed this pro-innovation move on Thursday, July 3.
Consequently, the US House dedicated the week spanning from July 14 to 18 to comprehensively tackling crypto-related legislation. Among the primary agenda for the week are the CLARITY Act, the Anti-CBDC bill, and the US Senate’s GENIUS Act.
After the US House of Representatives passed Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” on Thursday, their attention has now turned to crypto bills. Through a coordinated effort by the US House GOP, the lawmakers have dedicated a whole week to deliberating on and passing legislation specific to the digital assets industry.
Notably, in hindsight, not many would have foreseen this week coming. Barely a year ago, the United States repelled cryptocurrencies under the Joe Biden administration, with former US SEC Chair Gary Gensler in power.
Meanwhile, Trump is keeping to his promises of making America the crypto capital of the world. He recently called Bitcoin “amazing” and claimed he had built the crypto industry. Now, the latest US House announcement reflects that the crypto innovation push is now a national interest.
