NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Former President Donald Trump stated that if he returns to the White House, he will ensure that the federal government never sells the bitcoin it holds. However, he does not propose to build a "national reserve" using digital currency as some people expect.

"Throughout the years, our government has violated the principle that any Bitcoin player knows by heart: Never sell Bitcoin," Trump said in a speech at this year's Bitcoin Conference in Nashville—the largest Bitcoin conference of the year.

Trump's comments come amid the intensifying 2024 presidential race, with candidates seeking to attract votes and funding from the fintech–crypto community.

"This afternoon, I will present a plan to make the United States the crypto capital of the planet, the Bitcoin superpower of the world, and we will achieve that," Trump said.

However, Trump's promise to simply maintain the current amount of Bitcoin held by the government is still less "strong" compared to some other proposals at the conference.

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in a speech on Friday at the Bitcoin Conference, promised to create a reserve of 4 million Bitcoin, starting by using the Bitcoin the U.S. government holds from seizures related to crime.

Kennedy stated that he will ask the government to buy an additional 550 Bitcoin each day until the reserve reaches 4 million BTC.
