Trump Nominates Mike Selig as CFTC Chair to Lead U.S. Crypto Regulation ๐บ๐ธ๐น
President Donald Trump has nominated Mike Selig, chief counsel of the SECโs crypto task force, to head the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) after the Senate rejected his previous nominee, Brian Quintenz.
Selig, who previously worked at the CFTC under former Chairman Chris Giancarlo, is expected to guide the agency as Congress considers the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which could expand the CFTCโs authority over crypto spot trading โ including Bitcoin and Ether.
Selig pledged to make the U.S. the โcrypto capital of the worldโ, promoting innovation and clear regulation. Industry leaders such as Summer Mersinger, Amanda Tuminelli, and Ji Kim praised the nomination, citing his balanced approach to technology and regulation.
Acting Chair Caroline Pham continues to oversee the agency during the transition. If confirmed, Selig will play a central role in shaping the Trump administrationโs pro-crypto policies and the future of digital asset oversight in the U.S.
