Last night, my phone popped up a voice message, hoarse voice:
'Bro, I got liquidated. I clearly saw the direction right, but I couldn't bear to cut that one position, and as a result, with one pullback, the account went straight to zero.'
I replied to him: You are not liquidated, but are being tortured by the illusion of 'I will come back next time.'
Today, I整理 this paragraph for everyone who is still 'holding positions'—including you in front of the screen.
1. The market does not have a weather forecast, only a seismometer.
Any indicator is just a probability, not a crystal ball. Stop-loss is like putting a fuse in the seismometer—cut off the power when the market is wrong, don't wait for the building to collapse.
II. The Three Knives of Stop-Loss.
Cut risks, preserve capital.
Lock losses at 1% to 3%, even if wrong 10 times, still have 90% of the forces.
Cut emotions, preserve discipline.
When at a loss, the brain automatically secretes 'wait a bit longer', the stop-loss order acts for you.
Cut the indecision, preserve mental strength.
Write down the worst-case scenario before entering, during the trade only answer one multiple-choice question: has the price reached?
III. A simple arithmetic problem.
100,000 capital, endure a 50% drawdown once, remaining 50,000.
Want to return to 100,000, need to earn 100%.
Endure an 80% drawdown once, remaining 20,000, need to multiply by 4.
Endure a 90% drawdown once, remaining 10,000, need to multiply by 9.
Ask yourself: how many times did you multiply by 9 last year?
On the contrary, each time a 2% stop-loss, if wrong 10 times, total loss is 18%, the account still has 82,000. Just need to profit 22% to break even. Which is easier?
IV. Written for that fan, also written for your future self.
"It will come back" – these three words are the market's most toxic slow poison. They make you treat every drawdown as a temporary bump until one night, the market gaps down, and the account directly shows 'insufficient balance'. At that moment you understand: the real trend is capital going to zero.
Don't ask 'where did you die in this drawdown'. The answer is: every time you don't set a stop-loss during a drawdown, it's your execution day; it's just that the bullet flies slowly, making you mistakenly think you have time to stop.
Set the stop-loss before entering, leave your pride outside.
Remember: living is not because there is hope, but because you persisted, you have the opportunity to see hope.
