Launched on September 5, 1977, Voyager 1 is now the most distant human-made object at over 15 billion miles (approximately 166.4 AU) from Earth as of May 2025.
It continues to operate with just about 69 KB of onboard memory, relying on vintage digital 8-track tape for data storage and originally programmed in FORTRAN (later ported to Fortran 77, with some modules ported to C).
This 1970s technology still powers a probe that's cruising through interstellar space, a lasting example of extraordinary engineering and resilience.
