ChainCatcher news, according to a report by Hong Kong Wen Wei Po, Inspector Tsang Kin Wah of the Technology and Wealth Crime Unit of the Central District Police revealed the breaking of a 'scam vault' stablecoin fraud case. A 77-year-old woman brought 3 million Hong Kong dollars in cash to a virtual currency exchange store on Upper Lascar Row to purchase stablecoins, only to be deceived by the staff using a 'fake vault' to steal her money.
The Hong Kong police used the 'Sharp Eye Program' imaging and conducted in-depth investigations and intelligence analysis, leading to the arrest of three male and female fraudsters within three days after the incident, temporarily charged with the crime of obtaining property by deception. They are currently investigating other involved parties and the remaining stolen funds, and do not rule out the possibility of more arrests.
(Note: 'Vault' is a term in Cantonese for a safe or safe box. It is a type of security device typically used to store valuable items such as jewelry, precious metals, cash, and important documents like wills and deeds.)
