Ye bohot exciting aur significant development hai! Officially, Pakistan ne cryptocurrency aur digital assets ko legal status de diya hai—ye ek ordinance ke zariye hua hai jise Virtual Assets Ordinance, 2025 ke naam se pehchana gaya hai. Is ordinance ko President Asif Ali Zardari ne 8 July 2025 ko promulgate kiya, aur iska maqsad Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority ($POL VARA) ko establish karna tha.
Key Highlights:
Ordinance, not Act: Yeh abhi ek ordinance hai jo Parliament me tab tak valid rahega jab tak wo 120 dinon ke andar usko approve ya replace nahi karta—iske baad Parliament se pass hone par hi ye permanent law banega.
PVARA ka launch: PVARA ko establish kar diya gaya hai, jo ek independent regulator hoga, with powers to license, monitor, aur supervise karna sab virtual asset service providers ko—including exchanges, wallet providers waghera.
Global compliance & innovation support:
Authority FATF (Financial Action Task Force) ke anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terror financing (CFT) standards ke saath align karegi.
Regulatory sandbox aur “no-action letters” jaise tools bhi enable kiye jaayenge taake innovation ho sake under controlled environment.
Ek Shariah Advisory Committee bhi banane ka plan hai, jo Islamic finance principles ko ensure karega.
Further steps under way:
PVARA ne already apni inaugural board meeting hold ki hai, jahan specialist committees form ki gayi—sandbox, taxation, regulatory drafting, international engagement etc.—aur ek complaint portal bhi approved hua hai.
CBDC pilot: State Bank of Pakistan ne ek digital rupee (central bank digital currency) pilot launch karne ka announcement bhi kiya hai, jo Pakistan ke broader shift ko digital modernization ki taraf reflect karta hai.
Is it a “new era” for Pakistan?
