Finance Minister Fernando Haddad, whose proposal to monitor suspicious transactions was shot down after a disinformation campaign led by Congressman Nikolas Ferreira, his PL (Brazilian Socialist Party) party, and other Bolsonaro supporters, said that "starting tomorrow, all Fibintecha (Brazilian Financial Institutions) will have to provide the same clarifications on financial transactions as banks, and from then on, we will be able to unravel other money laundering schemes more quickly."
The mega-operation Hidden Carbon, launched this Thursday, the 28th, by the Federal Police in partnership with the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office, the Federal Revenue Service, and other agencies, revealed the use of fintechs to launder money for criminal organizations.
The Federal Police indicate that approximately R$52 billion from criminal organizations has passed through fintechs over the last four years. Among the targets of the operation this Thursday are companies in the financial sector, such as Reag Investimentos, which is listed on the São Paulo Stock Exchange.
