High-End Consumption

A wealthy individual who is financially free always stays at home reading books, rarely travels, and seldom attends parties or enjoys gourmet food.

When I asked him why he does this, he explained: In the real world, opportunities to meet intelligent people are few and far between; most people are ordinary and lack unique insights. But books are different; they are filled with sparks of wisdom.

Today, I can communicate with Confucius and Mencius, Li Bai and Du Fu, tomorrow I can understand the thoughts of Roosevelt, Churchill, Socrates, and Plato, and I can also study the achievements of Newton and Maxwell, as well as Descartes' philosophy.

In comparison, travel, parties, and enjoying gourmet food cannot be compared to the gains that reading brings! If reading cannot be transformed into benefits, then reading is a form of more sophisticated consumption.
