CertiK: The War Between Crypto Companies and Hackers Could Be Endless

Of the $2.5 billion taken by hackers, only a relatively small portion of the stolen funds has been returned — $187 million. As a result, the adjusted total loss amounted to approximately $2.28 billion, representatives of CertiK stated.

The most dangerous type of attack has been identified as wallet compromise: in 34 incidents, hackers managed to steal cryptocurrency worth over $1.7 billion. Phishing ranked second in terms of the total volume of stolen assets: criminals stole over $410 million across 132 incidents. CertiK reported that hackers most often target services based on Ethereum: in the first six months of the year, 175 cases of theft were recorded with losses amounting to $1.6 billion.

On average, each security-related incident resulted in losses of $7.1 million USD, however, the median loss per theft case was significantly lower — about $89,026. CertiK analysts calculated that during April to June, $801 million worth of crypto assets were stolen in 144 incidents. This is 52.1% less than in the first quarter of the year. The number of cyberattacks decreased by 59 cases.#Bubblemaps
