The Solana ecosystem is set to step into the hardware space, launching its first handheld gaming device.
Play Solana is committed to building Web3 gaming devices on the Solana blockchain and announced that it will start shipping its Play Solana Gen 1 (PSG1) device on October 6.
The device has the specifications needed for gaming, including an octa-core ARM processor, 8GB of RAM, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a touch LCD display, with a built-in hardware wallet and fingerprint authentication, allowing users to store crypto assets while gaming.
A limited series of NFTs has also been launched, granting 2000 holders early access and other ecosystem benefits.
Solana delves into the realm of physical products
This launch comes as the Solana ecosystem continues to push towards consumer-facing products, following the earlier release of the Saga smartphone.
In 2022, Solana Mobile, a subsidiary of Solana Labs, launched a blockchain-focused smartphone called Saga based on Android.
In 2023, the product was sold on eBay for $5000 and was successfully released, creating a buzz among users.
The rise of Web3 handheld gaming devices
In addition to Play Solana's PSG1, the blockchain network Sui has also entered the 3D gaming device arena.
In 2024, Sui blockchain creators Mysten Labs plan to launch the SuiPlay0X1 handheld gaming device integrated with the Sui network in the first half of 2025.
