The German economy is not in recession, but in a structural crisis.
Speaking in Osnabrück, he said that the problems are deeper than it seemed and are not limited to the consequences of the energy crisis.
The new 15% US tariffs have been criticized - a blow to exports.
Merz warned:
A trade war with the US would be a disaster, but the current situation also requires urgent reforms.
At the same time, Berlin remains the main financial sponsor of Ukraine in the EU - pressure is growing from both sides.
